How to Return CERB Payments

  1. First calculate the amount and time period you need to return payment for
  2. Determine which source received the payment from- CRA or Service Canada (EI benefit)
  3. **MUST RETURN TO THE SOURCE YOU RECEIVED THE CERB PAYMENT FROM***

1.  CRA accountSign in to your CRA-My AccountSelect the “Proceed to pay” button on the Overview page under the COVID-19 Emergency Support DetailsEnter the amount you wish to repaySelect your payment method of choice1.  Cannot pay online
2.  BANK: Through online banking or visiting bankUnder “Add a payee” look for an option such as: CRA (revenue) – tax instalmentEnter your 9 digit social insurance number as the CRA account number Write “repayment of CERB for this date to this date”2. BANK: Through online banking or visiting bankAdd a payee????look for an option such as “Employment and Social Development Canada”Enter your 9 digit social insurance number Write “repayment of CERB for this date to this date”
3.  MAIL: If cheque has not been cashed then return cheque by mail or, write a cheque to “Receiver General for Canada” and Memo: Repayment of CERB”Letter state:-   Indicate which eligibility period you are repaying-   Include your Social Insurance Number (SIN)ADDRESS: Revenue Processing – Repayment of CERBSudbury Tax Centre1050 Notre Dame AvenueSudbury ON P3A 0C33) MAIL: If cheque has not been cashed then return cheque by mail or, write a cheque to “Receiver General for Canada” and Memo: Repayment of CERB”Letter state: –   Indicate which eligibility period you are repaying-   Include your Social Insurance Number (SIN)ADDRESS: Payment OfficeESDC RemittancesPO Box 3333Matane QC G4W 4R9
